SIP Preconditions: A complex way to reserve the network resources (radio ones being the most sensitive)
before the phone rings in both sides. Without preconditions you might end in a situation where A call B, B responds, the network wants to allocate radio resources to the call, there are no resources left and the call is dropped by the network.Not a nice situation. However, there should not be many situations like this one since there is a lot of LTE capacity already, a call needs 50kbps and it have precedence over any other traffic like Internet browsing.
SIP Preconditions solution brings some extra messages and a lot of headaches to the mobile operators.
SIP Preconditions must be supported by the phone (sends in SIP Invite: Supported: precondition) and it can be disabled by the network.
